Wordpress offers free blog hosting

I do not know since when: but I just realised that Wordpress has an own weblog hosting service running, to be found under wordpress.com. Although I did not try it so far, I think this is a good solution for people willing to blog but not willing or able to host it on their own webserver. Would be interesting to compare the features of this new service against the one from blogger.
Learning2005 - Americans about blogs and wikis

I just finished my first interactive session/discussion at Learning2005 in Orlando. The result: I am a little bit disappointed. The reason: there were more than 90 people in the session about blogs and wikis, making discussion and interaction almost impossible. Although these crowds indicate a strong interest in this topic, many of the people did not have an idea what are wikis and weblogs all about. E.g. the trackback functionality - in my opinion one of the most important innovations of weblogs at all - did not play any role within the discussion. In Europe we always hear
Learning 2005 - only 2 days to go

On Saturday I will leave for Orlando/Florida to participate at Learning 2005. I intentionally chose the word “participate” as in my opinion so far this event will be different from other boring trade-show-conferences. Elliot Masie is really trying hard to make this a special event. What’s so special about it? Well, they set up a social networking tool that helps you to find colleagues that are facing the same challenges as you do or that can help you solving your problems. I can already approve: this works fairly well. Furthermore, the whole event with more than 1500 participants
Google launched blog search

Recently, Google has launched its own blog search. Some first tests showed me that it seems to work quite well. You can even find posts of the very same day of its publication.
Back from Prague - I love this city
25 October 2005 | Miscellaneous | No Comments
Last weekend I spent in Prague. It was not the first time I went to Prague. Actually, I am there once a year at least. Therefore, it is always a little bit like getting home. The lovely atmosphere, the solid food, the good beer, and finally - the jazz clubs. I visited two concerts, one of Klaus Paier Trio in a wonderful old-fashioned ballroom and the other of Lubos Andrst Blues Band in Ungelt Jazz Club. I enjoyed all of them - but especially the bandoneon music of Klaus Paier was a very inspiring experience.
Sales and Service Staff Training Challenges
14 October 2005 | Strategy | No Comments
I recently published an article on the competence site regarding the success factors companies will have to take into consideration when they have to train their distributed sales and service staff. As the article is in German language, I will outline the success factors here in English:
1) You should have a dedicated training department that is ideally directly reporting to the business department, not to Human Resources.
2) All training sessions should be contextual and directly product-related.
3) If you are using e-learning modules: make them “easy to digest” - the duration to complete one separated module should not exceed
Instant Messaging - bane or boon?

Whatever you make out of it - instant messaging (IM) has become a part of most of the knowledge workers’ life. The advantages are obvious: presence awareness, possibility to use it for a quick chat, … But you also have to see the disadvantages that are not as obvious: distractions from incoming messages, distractions from pop-up windows indicating login/logoff of contacts, … Bearing in mind, that an average human being needs at least 8 minutes to concentrate on a certain task, these distractions can hold you away from work for a whole day - and the number of distractions is
I am back blogging

I proudly announce that I am back in blogging. I promise to start blogging again after this big accident that destroyed a part of my work almost one year before.
Big accident

Due to the fact that mySQL-tables of my weblog were deleted accidentally, all of my posts are lost, unfortunately. I hope that I can reconstruct some of my thoughts very soon. I am quite busy at the moment. Thus, it could take a little bit of time. But I will come back stronger than before this “defeat”.
Kind regards,
Florian
