Podcasting on the fast track

It is obvious - podcasting gets ready to climb the hype curve. After having been elected by the New Oxford American Dictionary to be the “Word of the Year 2005″ also the public in German-speaking Europe becomes more and more aware of it. This study conducted by Bridge Ratings shows strongly increasing numbers of users in the U.S. Interestingly, most of the podcasts are not transfered to a mobile device like the ipod, but directly played on the personal computer. The study forecasts an increase of regular podcast consumers from about 1 million in 2005 to up to 18 million in 2010. I am quite sure that also companies internally can and will use podcasts in future as one additional channel of communication to their employees (e.g. in the area of learning and training). Early birds with similar approaches are already out there. This case study by Bersin about Pepsi shows interesting results. They use short videos in sales training and managed to increase field sales.
